Aligning Incentives and Managing Impact in Smallholder Farmer Financing: GAWA Capital's Huruma Fund
June 2020.
GAWA Capital's Huruma Fund was featured in Transform Finance's June edition of its monthly 90-minute webinars, which range from policy discussion and deal structures to aligning with social justice movements.
Luca Torre, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of GAWA Capital, was invited to present GAWA Capital's newest fund - Huruma Fund - which targets expanding the reach of smallholder farmer financing in its aim to improve the qualities of life of rural, bottom-of-the-pyramid populations. The Fund combines several innovative aspects which represent the basis for driving transformative change via impact investing:
a sturdy impact management approach via the transformation of financing business models to better serve farmers;
tying fund manager compensation to achievement of impact;
a blended finance structure that aligns different financial and social return expectations with the fund's theory of change.
